Every vehicle in this 22 slide gallery is available today in Canada. Also some handy info-graphics.
Fully electric vehicles have no ICE (Internal Combustion Engine). They use an all-electric motor, battery system, and specialized drivetrain. They require little to no maintenance other than windshield washer fluid and tires because even the brakes are modernized using electric motor control and will last longer than in a gasoline-powered vehicle.
An electric vehicle has a limited range (just like a gas car) and needs to be plugged in to recharge. Unlike with gasoline, there is not an electric fill-up station on every corner, but many do exist across the country for long-distance trips and more are added all the time.
Still, the most common usage is to charge your EV (Electric Vehicle) overnight at home.
Ranges can vary from just under 100km to almost 600km on a single charge with today’s vehicles and prices range from just $24,000 all the way up to over $200,000. The average person in a city (like Edmonton for example) even with side trips or a long commute will be under 40KM per day. Such use is easily accommodated within the range of all-electric cars on offer in today’s market.
Most major manufacturers have good quality all-electric options, many of which have been tested in Europe for several years before arriving here. Included are Mercedes, Ford, BMW, Chevrolet, Kia and of course the industry flagship TESLA. EV’s are smoother to drive, have faster responsiveness, and offer the lowest cost of ownership of any transportation method. (Cost per KM driven is a tiny fraction of gasoline vehicles, even with paying grid prices for energy). The pollution caused by power generation is also a tiny fraction of that caused by gasoline or diesel vehicles.
Electric vehicles use newer, stronger materials and better designs than traditional vehicles due to the lack of fuel tanks or engines. They tend to be much better in crashes and operate with near total silence & comfort. When consumer reports tested the TESLA Model S they found it so safe that it is the only vehicle in history to score OVER 100 out of 100 on their tests and in fact was so strong it broke the crusher.
Each electric vehicle requires equipment to supply it with charging current at its “home base”. This equipment is the choice and responsibility of the buyer and there are many options available.
SolarNinjas can help you select the appropriate level of EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) and will install it for you so that you can enjoy a lifetime of safe and clean driving.
