Art Gallery of Alberta Overview
The Art Gallery of Alberta is a famous art museum and travel destination in Edmonton, Alberta. It occupies an 8,000-square-feet building located in Churchill Square. While B. James Wensley and Donald G. Bittorf originally designed the museum building, Randall Stout redeveloped the building.
Formerly known as the Edmonton Museum of Arts, the museum opened in 1924. It became Edmonton Art Gallery in 1956 and was renamed Art Gallery of Alberta in 2005. It underwent a $88 million worth of redevelopment and was reopened to the public in 2010.
Things to Do
The Art Gallery of Alberta features six gallery spaces. The three gallery spaces are located on the building’s level one. You can find two gallery spaces on the second floor. If you want to see the largest exhibit space, proceed to level three.
In most cases, there is a display on the lower level that features art pieces from local artists or the gallery’s Art Rental and Sales.
The art gallery offers online programming, including online hands-on art activities, webinar events, and more. So, if you want to bring out your inner artistry from the comfort of your home, you can try the online art class.
You can also be an art gallery member and support the international, national, and local artists. Aside from receiving a free admission and incentives throughout the year, you can also help prevent a wide array of programming, community outreach, and exhibitions.
One of the best things about visiting this art gallery is that full access is cheaper than a movie ticket. If you are a senior, the admission even costs less. Alberta post-secondary students with their IDs and anyone under 18 years old can explore and enjoy the destination free of charge.
